The Celebration Choir &
Orchestra of First Baptist Church, Woodstock, Georgia, presented a concert of praise,
directed by Scott C. White (GA).
Lloyd Carrera (VA), deaf
congregation, First Baptist Church, Alexandria, led in prayer.
Mike Hand (OK), Committee on Order
of Business member, reported that the scheduled business for this time was no longer
necessary due to previous action. Hand made a motion, with the approval of the originator,
to withdraw the motions scheduled for this time, and it was carried.
Chairman Whitten moved for the
election of the Convention 2000 Sermon Preacher, Alternate, Music Director as follows:
Bailey Smith (GA) as Sermon Preacher, Bobby Welch (FL) as Alternate Sermon Preacher, and
Scott White (GA) as Music Leader. Motion carried.
President Paige Patterson
recognized Reggie White (TN), minister, Future National Football League Hall of Famer,
Knoxville, who gave his testimony.
Joel Allen led in congregational
praise and singing.
Marvin C. Clarke (NE), Committee
on Order of Business member, stated that no business was necessary because all previous
business was completed.
A theme interpretation entitled "He
beheld the city and wept" was given by Dennis Rainey (AR), executive
director, FamilyLife, Little Rock.
Al Jackson moved the adoption of
Resolution 11. Bob Lilly (MD) made motion to amend by adding the following paragraph:
"Be it finally RESOLVED that we encourage all who claim Jesus Christ as Lord to put
feet to their prayers and exercise their right to vote." Motion seconded. After the
committee agreed to the amendment, motion to amend carried. Resolution 11 was adopted as
amended.
Al Jackson moved the adoption of
Resolution 12. Mike Routt (KY) made a motion to amend. Motion to amend ruled out of order.
Resolution 12 was adopted.
Al Jackson moved the adoption of
Resolution 13. Ray Coleman (GA) moved to amend by inserting the word "adult" in
the second WHEREAS, between the words, "only" and "representation."
The committee agreed to the amendment and it was adopted by unanimous consent. The
amendment was enacted. Resolution 13 was adopted as amended.
Al Jackson moved the adoption of
Resolution 14. Resolution 14 was adopted.
Al Jackson moved the acceptance of
the Disposition of Resolutions (Pages 7-9 of the SBC Bulletin, Second Day) with
corrections: Resolution 13 (NO ACTION); Resolution 19 (incorporated in adopted Resolution
No. 5); Resolution 25 (incorporated in Resolutions No. 3 and No. 10).
President Paige Patterson
recognized former SBC presidents by introducing a video presentation honoring our former
SBC presidents. Former presidents and wives that were welcomed to the platform are as
follows: Dr. and Mrs. Morris H. Chapman, Dr. and Mrs. Adrian Rogers, Dr. and Mrs. Tom
Elliff, Dr. Charles Stanley, Dr. and Mrs. Jimmy Draper, and Dr. and Mrs. Jim Henry.
Dr. Paige Patterson recognized
Morris H. Chapman to honor SBC outgoing officers as follows: Dr. & Mrs. Rick Ferguson
(CO), Dr. and Mrs. Mike Gray (UT).
Morris H. Chapman introduced the
newly elected officers of the Southern Baptist Convention as follows: Dr. and Mrs. Paige
Patterson and their son, Armour. Dr. and Mrs. Frank Cox, Dr. Jerry Spencer, Mr. and Mrs.
John Yeats, and Dr. Lee Porter.

President Paige Patterson
recognized Bill Sutton (TX), Chairman of the Board, International Mission Board. Sutton
recognized Jerry A. Rankin (VA), president, International Mission Board, for his report.
An International Mission Board
Presentation by Jerry A. Rankin (VA), was highlighted by banner, choral, video and
missionary testimonies.
Junior Hill (AL), evangelist,
Hartselle, gave the closing convention benediction.
